Suzy Lamplugh Trust – our work on personal safety and taxi licensing

Here’s a brief update on what Suzy Lamplugh Trust, the leading national personal safety charity, is doing to promote safety in taxi licensing. For many years we have advocated for improving safety standards in taxi licensing and we are calling for national minimum licensing standards for taxis and private hire vehicles to ensure consistency across the UK. We are concerned about the proposal to de-regulate some private hire vehicle licensing in the government’s Tourism Action Plan 2016 and are looking to work with a range of stakeholders to increase the personal safety of both drivers and passengers. We will be launching our advocacy campaign on National Personal Safety Day on 5th October and look forward to collaborating with others in the coming months.
